The Royal Agricultural Society of NZ (RAS) is proud to own the Royal New Zealand Show and believes this 'flagship event' portrays the very best of agriculture within NZ.

In 2005, the RAS granted hosting rights of the Royal New Zealand Show to Canterbury A&P from 2006 to 2009 inclusive.  Recently at the 2008 RAS Conference held at the Holiday Inn, Wellington the successful tenderer for the hosting of the Royal New Zealand Show from 2010 to 2012 inclusive was announced as Canterbury A&P Association.

Highlights of the 2008 Royal NZ Show include:

  1. Canterbury A&P / RAS Marquee - The host association and the RAS have combined their resources and will host members, dignitaries and invited guests (both national and international) in the combined marquee.  This year it is expected that the number of overseas guests will vastly increase due to the RAS of New Zealand hosting the Royal Agricultural Society Commonwealth Conference.  The conference will be held at the Chateau on the Park in Christchurch and is due to commence on Friday 14 November and concludes Monday 17 November.
  2. Judging of the NZ Young Rural Achiever Award sponsored by ASB.  Finalists from six regions around NZ will be interviewed by a judging panel and having to make a public presentation within the ASB Marquee at this year's Royal NZ Show.  The announcement of the overall winner will be made in the early afternoon on Thursday 13 November.
  3. RAS Junior Judging Competition - In its second year this competition is going from strength to strength.  Sponsored by LIC Ltd, classes will be held in the beef, dairy and sheep sections on Friday (14 November) and the finalists will go to the Hobart Royal Show next year to compete in an Australasian Competition.
  4. RAS Supreme Champion Animal of the Show.  Each Section Committee will put forward their chosen Supreme Champion for this Award from the following sections: Horse, Sheep, Cattle, Alpaca, Llama, Pig & Goat.
