Showcase: Rotorua A&P Association – 29 January 2022

As we have all been trying hard to follow all the rules the government have in place to make us all as safe as possible with the horrible Coronavirus a lot of A & P Associations had to cancel their shows which was very disappointing for them all.

Our Executive committee talked with all sections involved to see if they would be able to proceed with their section whether we were in Orange Traffic light or even if we went into the Red Traffic light.  As some sections needed to hold their events to finish off their seasonal circuit for their specific group and be able to gain points for that season.  They were all happy to follow rules and put these into action to make it successful for all.

As it happened we went into the Red Traffic light.  We  did proceed with the show for the competitors, helpers and administration staff. It was closed to the general public.  Everyone entering had be fully vaccinated and present a vaccination card and wore masks as required in close contact areas.  On entering they had to scan in/sign in and we scanned their vaccination passes then issued them with wrist bands which they wore the entire time they were on the grounds. As we had no public entering there was no gate charge at all for competitors or support personnel.  We had a great team of people on the gates with our local Lions Club and Pig Hunting Club members working together to keep everything flowing well.  The way our grounds are set out allowed us to have the events spread out enough to keep good distances apart and having extra toilets around the grounds worked very well.

We had cleaners keeping our facilities cleaned thoroughly all throughout the weekend.  Everyone was happy to comply with our health and safety rules. Our competitor numbers were down in some sections but everyone that attended gave great feed back.  Our Shearing and Wool Handling section ran on the Sunday and was the first event for them in the North Island.  They were able to social distance very well, wearing masks and keeping on top of everything. Their event ran very smoothly.  Everyone enjoyed being able to take part in a show and put to use all the training they had done over the past months.
